The ones that are more graphic in nature would always get a second look simply because people have always been more visual than textual. Make a photography business card that will serve as a mini version of your work. You know very well that there are some people who bought some book because they cover looks very interesting. You have even entered a store because the sign or the logo looks interesting. It is not right but it is true that people base a lot of their judgment on your business card. If your business card shows great photos, they will think you are a great photographer.

You can design different business card for different target market and also design one that will cater to the general public just to be safe on all occasions. Go for sophisticated photos of you are meeting people in the likes of Vogue but you can be a bit more edgy if you are meeting people from MTV.

Also be aware of the image that you want to portray because your business card will do a lot on that aspect. Choose an image or design one that will really be an icon of who you are. Remember that you don't have to stick to one image but you have to stick to one image. Confusing people of your identity is never healthy.

If you are already known for a certain work, then try to put that in. In many cases, the work is more popular than the artist but for you to be identified with a specific successful work will increase your chances of getting a job.

Also be mindful of the lettering that you will use. Certain fonts signal femininity. If you are a guy, you wouldn't want that. Different fonts for different looks. Know what will fit the style you have. This should be a stretch for you. If you have the eye for photography, you will most likely have the eye for overall visual appeal.

Get design elements that are timeless. There are certain front, for example, that look good now but does not will not look good a year from now. When in doubt, verdana or future. Comic Sans is enemy.
